Republicans have been dreaming about defunding Planned Parenthood and cutting funding for women’s health services. Now, they are closer than ever to doing it.

The GOP passed a rule that allows state governments to reject federal funds for Planned Parenthood. This could result in shuttered clinics in underserved areas where women struggle to afford things like STI testing, contraceptives and preventative care.

We need to call this what it is — an assault on women’s rights and women’s health.

Planned Parenthood provides crucial family planning and reproductive health related services. Cutting their funding will put countless communities, families, and women at risk. That is unacceptable.
